Steps

  1. 1

    Unscrew the old head

Wrap the connector nut in a cloth (so the wrench doesn't scratch finish), turn counterclockwise. Most come off by hand once loosened.

  2. 2

    Clean the threads

Wipe old tape and gunk off the shower-arm threads with the rag.

  3. 3

    Wrap fresh tape

Wrap 3–4 turns of PTFE tape clockwise around the shower-arm threads (clockwise so it tightens, not loosens, as you screw on the new head).

  4. 4

    Install and test

Screw the new head on hand-tight, then snug 1/4 turn more with the wrench. Run water — if it drips at the connection, add another half-wrap of tape.
