Find the rub mark
Close the door slowly. The spot that resists is where it's binding. Mark it with pencil.

Try tightening hinge screws first
Loose top hinges cause the door to droop and rub at the latch side. Try snugging the screws first; if they spin freely, replace with longer 3" screws that bite into the framing.

Sand the rub spot
Use 80-grit on the marked area. Test-close. Mark and sand again if it still rubs. Take off less than you think — you can't put it back.

Touch up the bare edge
Sanded wood will absorb humidity differently than the rest. Wipe stain or paint on the bare spot.
