Steps

    Mark the height

    Standard height is 60" from the floor (eye level for an average adult). Mark with a pencil — use painter's tape under the mark so the drill doesn't splinter the door surface.

    Drill from the outside

    Drill straight through with the spade bit. Stop when the tip just breaks through the inside so you don't blow out the wood. Then finish from the inside to clean up the back of the hole.

  3. 3

    Install the peephole

    Two halves screw together: outside half through the hole, inside half threads onto it. Tighten by hand or with the tab/slot using a coin.
